SELAH: The Psalms Project - "Comics for the community down the street and around the world."
SELAH: The Psalms Project

Thank your for your interest in taking part in

SELAH: The Psalms Project.

Please read over the guidelines for the project and e-mail us with any questions you may have.

Guidelines:

1. Everyone who wants to take part CAN and WILL be included, provided the artwork fits into our standards of content. (In other words, keep it clean -- there are children who visit this website.)

2. You can choose any Psalm you want. Do not worry about doing the same Psalm as another artist. This is supposed to be an intensely personal project, and the way you approach a Psalm will be different than the way someone else does.

3. Be creative. Don't limit yourself. Use the text of the Psalm is the primary text, then set your creativity free. Create a visual representation of the Psalm. Avant-garde . . . abstract art . . . sequential . . . symbolic . . . manga . . . collage . . . painting . . . whatever.

4. Make this project an act of worship. How? Well, worship is expressing adoration for and praise to our God. It's a simple concept, but one that even the wisest and smartest of us have trouble understanding . . . or doing. We want to encourage Christian comic creators to merge our art with our worship. Meld our creativity with our spirituality. For some, that is an everyday occurrence. For others, it is a new idea. Some artists struggle with the dichotomy. Others have never even considered it.

5. Our specific artistic guidelines for this project are rather open, but we do have several terms of agreement for material submitted for this project:

  1. With exception of the included passages of Scripture, all submissions to Selah: The Psalms Project should be original work. Any and all collaborators must be in agreement for the material's submission.
  2. Your submission of the material grants Community Comics the right to publish the material on their website (www.communitycomics.com), in PDF form for download, and in any possible related print collections. Community Comics also reserves the right to use any portion or the entirety of the material for promotional purposes. You will be given due credit for the material when presented by Community Comics. You give Community Comics permission to use the submitted artwork as well as your name in promotional material. If the project is printed and your entry is included, you will receive (at least) one copy (depending on publishing costs). You will also be able to order more at cost.
  3. Community Comics does not reserve any exclusive rights on this material. You will retain ownership of your material and can reprint it as you wish.
  4. If you are under 18, you will need to have a parent/guardian contact Community Comics before submitting.

6. Technical details: Since the comics will originally be on the web, you do not need to worry about page sizes or format. Just remember that for us to print -- if we print -- we will need files at least 300 dpi. When you contact us, we can discuss those needs.

WHEN YOU ARE READY TO SUBMIT YOUR PROJECT:

Please read over all the guidelines.

To submit via e-mail, send:

  • Your name
  • A short bio (optional)
  • A brief explanation of why you did the Psalm you did (optional)
  • A website (optional)
  • Image files at 300 dpi (it is best to send image files one at a time and then send a follow up e-mail explaining what you have sent to make sure we received all the files)
  • The subject line should read: “SELAH: The Psalms Project submission”
  • Include the following statement (copy and paste from here into your e-mail): I have read and agree to the terms of submissions on the Community Comics website. I understand that I am giving Community Comics permission to use the artwork of my SELAH entry in their SELAH collections, but that I retain ownership of the copyright. I assert that I am 18 years of age or older.
  • If there are more than one collaborator on your entry, we must receive permission from each one.

Once you send this information and the image files to communitycomics@yahoo.com, we will post it as soon as possible. It's that easy.

If you wish to submit via snail mail, please contact us at communitycomics@yahoo.com and we will make arrangements.
